An antique original 1873 hand coloured botany print.
Prints of this age were printed in black ink and then a team of artists would hand colour each print to match the natural colours of the bird.
James Sowerby (21 March 1757 – 25 October 1822) was an English naturalist, illustrator and mineralogist. Contributions to published works, such as English Botany, include his detailed and appealing plates. The use of vivid colour and accessible texts were intended to reach a widening audience in works of natural history.
All our antique and vintage prints are framed in house using solid wood frames and archival grade methods.
Archival grade means that everything this antique print is touching is acid free and PH neutral which means the print is chemically stable and preserved for generations to come.
